NiMet Seeks Private Sector Investment

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has called for stronger private sector investment to improve weather observation infrastructure in Nigeria.

The agency said partnerships are necessary to expand weather monitoring systems and improve early warning services across the country.

NiMet noted that improved infrastructure will help strengthen national preparedness against extreme weather events and climate-related disasters.

According to the agency, more observation stations and modern technology are needed to collect accurate weather and climate data nationwide.

It added that reliable data is essential for aviation safety, agriculture planning, disaster risk management and climate resilience.

NiMet also emphasised the importance of collaboration between government institutions, development partners and private sector organisations.

NiMet explained that stronger data systems will help communities better prepare for floods, storms and other climate hazards.

The agency stressed that improved observation systems will protect lives, support economic activities and strengthen environmental planning.

NiMet described the effort as part of its commitment to building a safer and climate-resilient Nigeria.

The agency said observing weather patterns today will help protect communities and infrastructure in the future.
