The director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, has resigned from his position.
Kent announced his resignation in a letter addressed to Donald Trump and shared publicly on social media.
In the letter, he said he could not support the ongoing war involving the United States and Israel in Iran.
Kent stated that Iran did not pose what he described as an imminent threat to the United States.
He also suggested that the conflict was influenced by external pressure and disagreements within policy discussions.

Kent said he decided to step down because he could not continue supporting the military action.
The resignation makes him one of the most senior officials to leave the administration over the Iran conflict.
The National Counterterrorism Center is responsible for analysing intelligence and coordinating counterterrorism efforts across U.S. security agencies.
Kent previously served in the U.S. Army and worked as a paramilitary officer for the Central Intelligence Agency.
His departure highlights internal disagreements within the U.S. government over the justification for the war with Iran.
The conflict has also raised global concerns about regional stability and energy security in the Middle East.
