Shettima Departs Abuja for AU Summit 2026

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 African Union Summit.

The Summit is themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

Discussions will centre on sustainable water management, improved sanitation systems, and broader continental development goals under Agenda 2063.

While in Addis Ababa, Shettima will attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government.

He will also participate in the 30th General Assembly scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2026.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Vice President will engage in high-level bilateral meetings.

The engagements are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships across Africa.

Shettima is accompanied by cabinet ministers and other senior government officials.

He is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his official engagements.
