Two persons have lost their lives following a tragic road accident at the Leme axis along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the fatal collision to excessive speed, underscoring the persistent danger of speed violations on Nigerian highways.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the FRSC Command’s Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsin, confirmed that the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. and involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle registered as AYT 837 QU.
“FRSC rescue operatives received the distress call at 5:50 p.m. and arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m., responding within five minutes,” Odunsin said. “A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injuries were recorded among the remaining individuals.”
FRSC rescue personnel evacuated the deceased and deposited their bodies at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijaye, Abeokuta. Operatives also recovered personal belongings from the scene, including an identity card and a mobile phone and promptly cleared the obstruction to restore traffic flow.
Reiterating the corps’ commitment to road safety, Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi commiserated with the families of the victims while urging motorists and motorcyclists to strictly observe speed limits and avoid reckless driving.
The FRSC reminded the public to report road emergencies immediately via the national toll-free line 122 or through the nearest patrol team.
