President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The approval was disclosed on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement.

According to Onanuga, the extension means Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will now end on June 30, 2028.

The presidential spokesman said the decision followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address succession gaps in both services and give their governing board sufficient time to appoint successors.

Onanuga said Tinubu commended the two service chiefs for the reforms achieved under their leadership and urged them to consolidate the gains recorded so far.

Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, before his appointment was confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.

Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.

The extensions will allow both officials to continue overseeing their respective agencies while the process of appointing their successors is addressed.
