President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ended his working vacation in Paris, France, and departed for Nigeria, with his aircraft expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29.
The president’s return marks the end of his extended working vacation in Europe, which began with his departure from Abuja on August 30.
The President is travelling to Lagos ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1, with the Presidency saying he will remain in the commercial capital for the anniversary before returning to Abuja later in the week.
According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s decision to return through Lagos will also allow him to attend the national premiere of MKO, a documentary about the life and political struggle of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. The documentary is scheduled to premiere at the National Theatre in Lagos on October 1, with Tinubu listed as Chief Host.
The film explores Abiola’s political journey, the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and the pro-democracy struggle that followed. It is scheduled for nationwide cinema release from October 2.
Tinubu is also expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos, against the backdrop of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The President left Abuja on August 30 and spent about a week in London before travelling to Paris. During his stay in France, he held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré, as part of the engagements the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu’s return comes after the Presidency extended his European stay beyond the initially announced schedule, while maintaining that he continued to receive briefings and direct government affairs from abroad.
His arrival in Lagos now sets the stage for the President’s Independence Day activities, including his national broadcast and attendance at the documentary premiere honouring Abiola and the history of Nigeria’s June 12 democratic struggle.SEO PACKAGE
