President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the new Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Zonal Directorate Office in Ado-Ekiti, describing the facility as a major step towards strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption campaign and advancing the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday along Old Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti, was performed on behalf of the President by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu commended the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and the Commission’s management and staff for their dedication to strengthening anti-corruption institutions and enhancing operational effectiveness.
He said the completion of the modern office complex reflects the Commission’s determination to deepen the fight against corruption and improve service delivery across the country.
According to the President, investing in modern infrastructure and improved welfare for law enforcement personnel remains essential to national development, noting that the EFCC plays a critical role in Nigeria’s economic reform and security framework.
Tinubu highlighted some of the Commission’s recent achievements, including its role in dismantling a foreign-controlled cryptocurrency fraud syndicate in Lagos in 2024, securing the conviction of 192 foreign nationals, combating Ponzi schemes, and contributing to Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List.
He also praised the agency’s asset recovery efforts, stating that recovered funds have supported key government programmes such as the Students Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Scheme.
The President further commended the EFCC for securing convictions in high-profile corruption cases, stressing that such outcomes demonstrate the government’s commitment to accountability and the rule of law.
Reaffirming support for anti-corruption agencies, Tinubu pledged continued investment in improved working conditions, welfare packages, operational independence, and capacity-building initiatives for personnel.
Earlier, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede described the inauguration of the Ekiti Zonal Directorate as a significant milestone in the Commission’s efforts to bring anti-corruption services closer to the people.
He noted that the establishment of the directorate addresses long-standing operational challenges in covering Ekiti and Ondo States, while strengthening the Commission’s ability to tackle economic and financial crimes in the region.
Olukoyede assured residents that law-abiding citizens had nothing to fear from the Commission, emphasizing that the EFCC’s presence is intended to protect the public and uphold justice.
He warned that criminals involved in cybercrime, illegal mining, financial fraud, and other economic offences would find no safe haven within the jurisdiction of the new office.
The EFCC chairman also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to pursuing corruption cases to their logical conclusion, citing recent landmark convictions, including those involving former NEXIM Bank Managing Director Robert Orya and former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman.
He called on residents, civil society organisations, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders in Ekiti and Ondo States to support the anti-corruption campaign, stressing that public participation remains vital to its success.
The newly commissioned office complex features modern workstations, furnished offices, holding facilities for suspects, staff and visitor canteens, an expansive parking area, and other operational facilities designed to enhance productivity and efficiency.
The event was attended by top government officials, including Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, lawmakers, heads of security agencies, and traditional rulers from across the country.
