Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, has rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus arrangement in Gombe State, describing it as illegal and lacking inclusivity.
In a statement issued by his supporters, Prof. Pantami argued that the so-called consensus process did not follow due legal procedures and failed to involve all aspirants who had purchased nomination forms. He maintained that a valid consensus can only exist if all aspirants agree and formally step down.
The statement stressed that where even one aspirant refuses to consent, the party must revert to direct primaries, in line with provisions of Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
Prof. Pantami’s camp described the development as a “coronation” rather than a democratic process, warning that it undermines fairness and internal party democracy. Supporters were, however, urged to remain calm and law-abiding while legal options are being explored.
The former minister, who is seeking the governorship position in Gombe State, insisted that due process must be followed to ensure credibility and transparency in the selection of candidates. His position reflects broader tensions within the party ahead of upcoming political contests.
Prof. Pantami has consistently emphasised accountability and adherence to legal frameworks in governance and political processes, aligning his campaign with principles of transparency and rule of law.
