Rt. Hon.Ibrahim Zanna Sunoma, a youth advocate and Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian Children’s Parliament, has stressed the importance of making education accessible to every child, describing schooling as a fundamental right that should not be denied to anyone.
Sunoma made the statement while appearing as a guest on S24 Spotlight, a programme on S24 Television, in Abuja, where he shared his personal journey, challenges, and advocacy efforts aimed at empowering young people across Nigeria.
Speaking on the programme, Sunoma reflected on growing up in Bama, a community in Borno State affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, and how the challenges he experienced shaped his commitment to defending the rights of children and youths.
He explained that he initially aspired to become a lawyer, but his passion for social justice and youth development led him into advocacy, where he now works to amplify the voices of young Nigerians.
Sunoma revealed that his advocacy journey began during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he started using social media platforms to raise awareness on issues affecting young people.
“Starting from social media advocacy, I came to understand that young people can make a difference,” he said, adding that youths have the ability to influence positive change when given the opportunity and support.
The Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian Children’s Parliament urged individuals and institutions responsible for leadership and governance to intensify efforts in holding leaders accountable and ensuring that the future of society is protected.
According to him, the experiences of children growing up in conflict-affected areas should serve as a reminder of the need for stronger investment in education, security, and opportunities for young Nigerians.
Sunoma expressed confidence in the ability of young people to shape Nigeria’s future, noting that his journey from Bama to becoming a youth representative demonstrates what is possible when young people are empowered.
He called on youths across the country to remain committed, responsible, and actively involved in creating solutions to the challenges facing society.
“The future belongs to young people, and I believe they will do what is needed to build a better society,” Sunoma stated.
