The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to promote national unity by embracing one another as brothers and sisters, regardless of ethnic or cultural differences.

The DG made this appeal while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja. He encouraged them to build friendships and relationships that would strengthen national integration. General Nafiu reminded the corps members of their potential greatness.

Seated here are future Governors, Senators, Members of State and National Assemblies, Presidents, Vice-Presidents, and Captains of industry,” he said.

The DG urged corps members to remain selfless, take advantage of the service year, and create lifelong connections. The majority of us got our wives from NYSC, so do not waste the opportunity. Also, respect the culture of the people of Lagos State.” Corps members were advised to prepare for life after service by learning at least one entrepreneurial skill during the orientation camp that can help them become self-reliant and even employ others.

General Nafiu revealed that the Bank of Industry has set aside ₦2 billion in business loans for interested corps members. He added that other financial institutions are also ready to support young entrepreneurs.

Banks and organizations mentioned include Wema Bank, NNPC Foundation, Access Bank, and Unity Bank. These institutions offer low-interest business loans to corps members.

Earlier, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, informed the DG that corps members had shown strong commitment and readiness to serve the nation. She also disclosed that work is ongoing at the site of the new NYSC Orientation Camp in Agbowa, Ikorodu, signaling further improvements to facilities in the state.
