Governor Yusuf Approves Establishment of Kano Elders Council

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the establishment of the Kano Elders Council, a non-partisan advisory body made up of respected statesmen, elders and distinguished indigenes of the state.

The Governor made the announcement on Monday, January 27, 2026, describing the initiative as a strategic move to institutionalize dialogue, promote unity and strengthen peace and stability across Kano State.

According to Governor Yusuf, the Council will serve as a moral and advisory platform, offering guidance on issues related to peacebuilding, social cohesion, political stability and sustainable development.

He explained that the body would operate above partisan politics, stressing that its role is not to govern but to provide counsel, mediation and wise guidance, especially during periods of tension and uncertainty.

“The Kano Elders Council will stand above partisan politics. Its role will not be to govern, but to guide; not to compete, but to counsel; not to inflame, but to reconcile,” the Governor stated.

Governor Yusuf added that the establishment of the Council reflects his administration’s commitment to unity, continuity and inclusive governance, noting that Kano’s progress depends on collective responsibility and shared purpose.

He emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional dialogue, prevent conflict and promote long-term stability in the state.
