Gombe State University Student Assaulted In Hostel

Gombe State University has confirmed that a final-year female student was injured after an intruder attacked her at the Female Hostel in the early hours of Monday, 19 January 2026.

In a statement released by the university, the incident happened while students were on break, as the victim was preparing for her project defence. The attacker reportedly gained access to the hostel and confronted the student, leading to a struggle.

University security operatives quickly responded to the distress call and took immediate steps to secure the area and protect other students. The Vice-Chancellor and members of the university management also visited the scene to assess the situation and ensure proper action was taken.

The student sustained a deep cut on her hands while trying to defend herself. She was rushed for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition.

The management of Gombe State University has reassured students, staff and the general public that security measures on campus are being strengthened to prevent a repeat of such incidents.

The university reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and secure learning and living environment for all students.
