Imam Abdullahi Abubakar has passed away. He was 90 years old and died in a hospital in Jos, Plateau State, after being sick with heart problems.
In 2018, there was a violent attack in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State. Armed men attacked several villages and many people were in danger. Imam Abdullahi opened his mosque and home to help. He hid over 260 Christians who were running from the violence. Even when attackers asked him to hand them over, he refused.
Because of his brave act, he received awards from inside and outside Nigeria. This included the International Religious Freedom Award in 2019.
Many Nigerians are sad about his death. Leaders and groups say he showed kindness, peace, and love for all people and President Bola Tinubu called him a great example of faith and courage.
The Christian Association of Nigeria said he was a symbol of hope and unity. Imam Abdullahi left behind 19 children. His life will be remembered for helping others, even when it was dangerous.
