The Federal Government has officially announced public holidays to mark the upcoming festive season. According to a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, have been declared public holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day. In addition, Thursday, January 1, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday to celebrate the New Year.

In the statement, the minister urged Nigerians to use the season to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ. He also called on citizens of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds to pray for peace, improved security and continued national progress during the holiday period.

Tunji‑Ojo further encouraged Nigerians to remain law‑abiding and security‑conscious as they celebrate with family and loved ones, while extending warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
