Nigeria and the Islamic Republic of Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with renewed emphasis on trade, investment, energy cooperation and multilateral engagement.
The pledge followed a high-level meeting held on December 17, 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and the Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Gholamreza Madhavi Raja.

The meeting marked one of the first formal engagements since Ambassador Raja presented his Letters of Credence to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during the discussions, the Iranian envoy described Nigeria as a strategic partner and a gateway to West Africa, noting that Tehran views Abuja as central to its engagement with the African continent.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation in priority sectors, including trade, energy and strategic diplomacy, while also strengthening collaboration within multilateral platforms.
