JUST IN: UNESCO Approves Establishment of Media Literacy Institute in Nigeria

The 43rd UNESCO General Conference has officially approved the hosting of the first Category-Two International Media Literacy Institute in Abuja, Nigeria, marking a major milestone for Africa in the field of media and information literacy.

The institute, the first of its kind globally, will serve as a regional hub for media literacy research, capacity building, and policy development, strengthening efforts to combat misinformation, promote digital literacy, and enhance responsible media engagement across the continent.

Nigeria’s successful bid to host the institute reflects its growing leadership in information and communication development within UNESCO’s global framework.
