Police in Delta State have arrested five suspected armed robbers in separate operations. The arrests took place in Ughelli North and Ika South local government areas.

The operations also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, mobile phones and other items. The Delta State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrests followed intelligence reports about suspected criminal activities.

On October 16, 2026, operatives of the CP-SAT raided Ujode Community in Ughelli North. The operation targeted a suspected robbery syndicate accused of terrorising residents.

The officers arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Thankgod Ejakpomewhe. However, other suspected gang members escaped.

Police recovered a locally made long gun and one live cartridge. Edafe said officers were working to arrest the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation, police raided a suspected criminal hideout in Alisimen Community. The operation took place on October 15 in Ika South Local Government Area.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ubuluku carried out the raid. They arrested four suspects during the operation.

The suspects are Okwunzuwa Rubben, 28; John Onyeka, 42; Uzoma Ifeyinwa, 20; and Osas Atoe, 22.

Police recovered a double-barrelled pump-action gun during the raid. Other items included a laptop, six mobile phones, a camouflage cap and a jacket.

A further search of the suspects’ residence uncovered five rounds of live ammunition, according to the police.

The Delta State Police Command said investigations into both cases were ongoing. Officers are also working to establish the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for their efforts. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks.

Eralе also warned suspected criminals to stop their activities or face lawful action. He urged residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.

The command said public cooperation remains vital to preventing crime. It also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to the police.
