The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated his commitment to the welfare and healthcare of Nigerian Army personnel and their families, stressing that a healthy force is critical to operational readiness.
Shaibu made the commitment on Thursday, when he received a high-level delegation at the Army Headquarters in Abuja to discuss ways to strengthen healthcare delivery and infrastructure across Nigerian Army formations.
The delegation was led by a former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd.), and included representatives from the private sector and diplomatic community.
Discussions focused on developing a sustainable Public-Private Partnership to modernise Nigerian Army healthcare facilities. The proposed collaboration will cover hospital development and upgrades, modern medical equipment, pharmaceutical support and digital health solutions across Army establishments.
The COAS said the health and wellbeing of personnel and their families remain central to his “Soldier First” concept. He added that sustained investment in quality healthcare would support his goal of building a professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force.
Shaibu stressed that a healthy and motivated workforce is essential for maintaining morale and effective military operations. He therefore welcomed credible partnerships that could bring investment, expertise, technology and innovative healthcare solutions to complement government efforts.
The proposed partnership involves Honey Star Resources Limited, M&P and Elevate Egypt, with support from the League of African Ambassadors. The initiative is expected to improve access to quality healthcare, strengthen medical infrastructure and build a more resilient healthcare system for Army personnel and their families.
The Army said the collaboration would also contribute to improved operational readiness and strengthen its capacity to respond effectively to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
