Ten members of the National Youth Service Corps abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The corps members were kidnapped last Wednesday along the Aloma-Egane Expressway while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, confirmed their rescue on Monday at a press briefing in Abuja.
The Kogi State Police Command also confirmed the rescue, saying the operation was conducted jointly by the police, military and Department of State Services.
In a statement, the command described the operation as “a coordinated, sustained, and intelligence-driven operation” aimed at rescuing the victims and dismantling the criminal network operating in the area.
The police said efforts were ongoing to rescue other victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The operation is still ongoing, with the potential to rescue all the kidnapped victims,” the command said.
It added that security forces had intensified operations in the area while pursuing the kidnappers.
The command commended personnel of the police, military, DSS and other supporting agencies for their “gallantry, professionalism, and resilience” during the operation.
The police also urged residents of the affected communities to remain vigilant and provide useful information to security agencies.
