The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee will question the alleged Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) at an undisclosed location and date. Lawmakers say the move will support their ongoing investigation into the controversial agency.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi said the panel chose a private meeting to avoid disrupting investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Gagdi explained that the alleged PFIPC Director-General remains in police custody under a court order. As a result, the committee cannot compel him to appear at a public hearing. He added that the private session will allow lawmakers to gather information while respecting due process.
At the hearing, businessman Gbenga Collins told lawmakers he paid ₦400 million after someone allegedly promised him a contract to renovate the official residence of the PFIPC Director-General.
Collins said he believed PFIPC was a legitimate government agency. He based his belief on its office, official vehicles, and security personnel.
Lawmakers said they want to establish the facts and determine how the alleged agency operated. They also pledged to work alongside anti-corruption agencies as investigations continue.
The committee also summoned the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Lawmakers want an explanation for the alleged use of official Federal Government number plates on vehicles linked to the purported agency.
The House of Representatives said it will continue questioning witnesses and collecting evidence. The committee will present its final report after completing the investigation.
