The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has started demolishing a completed multi-storey apartment building in Ajah, the move has sparked outrage among residents and social media users.

The building stands opposite Royal Garden Estate near Thomas Estate. Videos circulating online show demolition equipment pulling down parts of the structure.

LASBCA says it is enforcing building regulations across Lagos. The agency has intensified efforts to prevent structural failures and building collapses in the state.

The demolition has also raised concerns about regulatory oversight. Many online users questioned why authorities allowed construction to reach completion before taking action.

Some reports claim the developer marketed the project as luxury apartments. Others allege that buyers had already purchased several units. Social media users also claimed that each apartment sold for about ₦500 million. However, authorities have not verified those figures.

Officials have not disclosed the developer’s identity. They have also not revealed the specific violations that led to the demolition.

The incident has divided public opinion. Some people sympathize with buyers who may have invested in the project. Others argue that developers and investors must verify permits and approvals before construction or purchase.

The case highlights the challenges facing Lagos’ fast growing real estate sector. It also raises questions about how regulators can enforce safety standards while protecting investors from major losses.

LASBCA has yet to release a detailed statement on the demolition.
