The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the completion of its security deployment and operational arrangements ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, assuring residents of adequate protection throughout the electoral process.
The police said personnel have been deployed across all 2,545 polling units in the state, alongside critical infrastructure, border communities, and major entry and exit routes to ensure a peaceful, free and credible governorship election.
Providing an update on the Force’s preparedness, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, said a multi-layered security strategy has been adopted to safeguard voters, election officials, observers and sensitive electoral materials.
According to him, security operatives and operational assets have been strategically positioned across the state to prevent disruptions and maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
The deployment, he noted, is designed to ensure that eligible voters can cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured Nigerians that all officers deployed for election duty have been adequately briefed on their responsibilities, rules of engagement and electoral guidelines.
He said police personnel would carry out their duties professionally, impartially and in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The IGP also warned that anyone found engaging in electoral offences or acts capable of undermining the credibility of the governorship election would be prosecuted in line with the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.
Police Activate Election Emergency Line
As part of efforts to ensure a swift response to security incidents, the Nigeria Police Force has activated a dedicated election emergency line.
Residents are encouraged to report any security concerns or suspicious activities through:
Election Emergency Line: 080062335577
The police said the hotline will remain operational throughout the election period to facilitate prompt intervention where necessary.
The Force called on residents of Ekiti State to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the governorship election.
It also urged eligible voters to exercise their constitutional rights peacefully while avoiding the spread of unverified information capable of creating panic or disrupting public order.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that the Ekiti State Governorship Election is conducted in a free, fair, credible and peaceful atmosphere.
