The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured a court order to take control of 17 containers filled with illegal drugs worth over 33.6 billion.

The drugs were seized at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex in Onne, Rivers State, during several operations carried out between April and September 2025.

NDLEA said the containers held 19.6 million pills of Tramadol, Tafrodol, Tapentadol, and Carisoprodol. Officers also found 2.49 million bottles of Codeine syrup hidden inside the shipments.

The agency explained that the total street value of the drugs is over N33.6 billion. This makes it one of the biggest drug seizures recorded at Onne Port.

Justice Adamu Turaki Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt gave the interim forfeiture order after NDLEA filed its request before the court.

The judge ruled that the containers and all the illegal drugs inside them should remain in the custody of the Federal Government until the court gives a final judgment.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), described the ruling as a strong blow against drug cartels.

He said the action would stop criminal groups from using drug money to destroy the lives of young people and fund other crimes, including terrorism.

Marwa added that the agency remains committed to fighting drug trafficking and protecting Nigerians from substance abuse.

He also praised the judiciary for supporting the agency’s work and thanked NDLEA officers at Onne Port for their careful checks and dedication.

The NDLEA boss commended the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies for their teamwork in stopping the illegal shipment.

He also appreciated international partners for sharing useful intelligence and technical support in the fight against drug trafficking.

NDLEA said it will continue to track drug networks and ensure that those involved in illegal drug importation face justice.
