Residents of Kogi State are set to experience a mix of extreme heat and possible thunderstorms today, March 26, 2026, following a fresh alert from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.
The agency said the day will begin with clear skies and rising temperatures. As the sun gets stronger, the heat is expected to peak in the afternoon. Later in the day, clouds may build up, leading to light or moderate rainfall in some areas.
NiMet warned that the high temperatures could expose residents to Heat Stress, especially between noon and 4 pm. Health experts advise people to drink enough water, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and stay in cool places when possible.
The forecast also includes strong winds before the rain begins. These winds could damage weak buildings, roofs, and trees. In addition, heavy rainfall in some areas may lead to flash floods, especially in communities with poor drainage.
Authorities are asking residents to take simple safety steps. These include clearing blocked gutters, securing loose items around homes, and staying indoors during storms.
Farmers in the state have also received advice to delay planting for now. Experts say early rainfall may not be steady enough and could wash away seeds, fertilizers, or chemicals.
Drivers and commuters should remain careful on the roads, as rain may reduce visibility and make surfaces slippery.
As weather conditions change across the region, residents are encouraged to stay alert, follow official updates, and take early action to stay safe.
