Nigeria Customs Honours Retiring DCG Nnadi and ACG Egwu

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured retiring Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Dera Nnadi and Assistant Comptroller-General Kingsley Egwu marking the end of their decades-long service.

The event took place on Friday at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who was ably represented by Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Training and Doctrine Command, Sulaiman Chiroma said the parade was organised to recognise the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the retiring officers.

He described the ceremony as an opportunity for the Service to honour the officers’ contributions to national development.

According to the CGC, Nnadi served in several strategic commands where responsibilities such as revenue generation, trade facilitation and border security intersect.

Adeniyi also noted Nnadi’s role in mentoring younger officers and strengthening institutional knowledge within the Service.

The CGC also commended ACG Egwu for his role in advancing reforms in Customs administration, particularly through the adoption of technology to improve transparency and operational efficiency.

He recalled Egwu’s tenure as the 10th Commandant of the Customs Command and Staff College, where his focus on discipline, knowledge and ethics influenced the training of many officers.

Responding at the event, Nnadi thanked God and the Service for the opportunity to serve Nigeria, describing his career as one defined by dedication and learning.

He emphasised that the achievements recorded during his career were made possible through teamwork among Customs officers.

Egwu also described his more than three decades in the Service as both demanding and fulfilling.

The ceremony ended with tributes from colleagues and the presentation of honours to celebrate the retiring officers’ long years of service to the nation.
