Operation Whirl Stroke Neutralises Terrorists in Benue

Troops of the Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered weapons during an operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The operation took place on March 9, 2026, during a confidence-building patrol in Tse-Anka community, Yooyo Council Ward.

According to the military, troops received credible intelligence about suspected terrorist activities in the area.

Acting on the information, soldiers moved to the location alongside operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard.

Upon arrival, troops encountered the suspects, leading to a brief firefight.

During the engagement, two suspected terrorists were neutralised. Several others reportedly fled with possible gunshot wounds.

Security operatives recovered several items from the scene. Which includes; One AK-47 rifle, Five rifle magazines, Sixty-one rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, One round of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, Nine rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Other items recovered included a Bajaj motorcycle, 82 SIM cards, six ATM cards and several charms.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response.

He said the operation reflects sustained pressure on criminal groups operating within the joint operations area.

Major General Gara assured residents that the task force remains committed to protecting lives and property.

He also encouraged continued collaboration among security agencies to combat terrorism and banditry in the region.

The military added that operations will continue to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace across affected communities.
