Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has urged public officials to uphold transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. He warned that embezzlement of public funds is one of the greatest betrayals against society.
Pantami spoke while delivering the Day 20 Ramadan Tafsir at An-Nur Mosque.
During the lecture, he cited the book Embezzlement in Public Funds by Dr. Ridwan Sarira. He said corruption in public office harms millions of Nigerians who rely on government resources for development and welfare.
Pantami explained that public funds belong to the people, not to individuals in office.
“Embezzling public funds is one of the greatest betrayals on earth because the money belongs to many Nigerians, not one person,” he said.
He also condemned the inflation of government contracts for personal gain. According to him, the practice fuels corruption and weakens public trust in government.
Pantami reminded leaders and public servants that leadership is a responsibility entrusted to them by the people. He said officials must not treat public office as an opportunity for personal enrichment.
The Islamic scholar also warned that anyone who misuses public resources will answer for their actions. He urged officials to embrace transparency and integrity in governance.
Many worshippers attended the Ramadan Tafsir to listen to his reflections on leadership, accountability, and moral duty in public service.
