A senior Iranian military commander has warned that the United States would suffer heavy losses if the conflict with Iran escalates.

The warning was issued by Amir Hatami, a major general and commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.

Hatami said millions of Iranian soldiers are prepared to sacrifice their lives in defence of the country.

He claimed the United States would face losses greater than those experienced in wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan.

The Iranian commander also dismissed claims that the United States cannot be defeated militarily.

He said Iran would demonstrate its capability to resist any foreign aggression.

The statement comes amid escalating hostilities between Iran and the United States following large-scale strikes on Iranian targets.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly vowed retaliation against what they describe as aggression by the U.S. and its allies.

The conflict has heightened tensions across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional war.
