The Independent National Electoral Commission has released a revised timetable for the 2027 General Election.

INEC said the adjustment follows the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026.

The new law introduced changes to statutory timelines for pre-election and electoral activities.

Under the revised schedule, Presidential and National Assembly elections will now be held on January 16, 2027.

Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.

The Commission earlier fixed February 20 and March 6, 2027, under the repealed Electoral Act.

INEC said the revision ensures full compliance with the new legal framework.

Party primaries, including dispute resolution, will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026.

Campaigns for Presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on August 19, 2026.

Governorship and State Assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.

INEC reminded parties that campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.

The Commission warned that it will strictly enforce compliance with the approved timetable.
