Tinubu Nominates Amb. Ismail as NAHCON Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.

The President conveyed the nomination in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He requested the expeditious confirmation of the nominee.

Ambassador Yusuf will replace Professor Abdullahi Usman Pakistan, who resigned this week after about 14 months in office.

Yusuf is a career diplomat.

He served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.

The nomination marks a new leadership transition at the Hajj Commission.

NAHCON oversees the regulation and coordination of Hajj and Umrah activities for Nigerian pilgrims.
