The Federal Government has fixed May 14, 2026, as the completion date for the long-awaited Potiskum, Jakusko and Gashua Road in Yobe State, a major route linking communities across the North-East.
This was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works in Yobe State, Engr. Nasir Dauda, during a national media tour. The announcement has been welcomed by Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, who praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development in the region.
Senator Lawan said the clear deadline reflects a new focus on accountability and results under the Tinubu administration, with strong supervision from the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi.
The road project, awarded in 2024 at the cost of N75.47 billion, is being constructed with rigid pavement technology. Work began from Channel 49, identified as the most critical section of the road. According to the Project Manager, Engr. Kabir Fatai, over 1.5 kilometres have already been completed by the contractor, JRB Construction Limited.
The Potiskum–Jakusko–Gashua Road is a key economic corridor, supporting trade, agriculture, access to education and healthcare, and cross-border movement with the Niger Republic. Its completion is expected to boost security, improve transportation, and unlock economic opportunities for Yobe State and the wider region.
Senator Lawan urged the contractor to intensify work and maintain high quality standards, while calling on the Federal Ministry of Works to sustain strict oversight to ensure value for money.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and commended Minister Umahi for responding to the concerns of residents, noting that the project would stand as a lasting legacy of responsive and progressive governance.
