A United States lawmaker has rejected calls for dividing Nigeria, warning that such moves would worsen insecurity and endanger Christians.
The lawmaker said he recently travelled across Nigeria and held high-level meetings with government officials, church leaders, aid organisations, and internally displaced persons.
He said the engagements focused on understanding the scale of violence and persecution affecting Christian communities across the country.
According to him, discussions with stakeholders did not include any serious proposals for partitioning Nigeria.

He warned that encouraging separatist movements would harm Christians, particularly in the North and Middle Belt regions.
The lawmaker said a fragmented Nigeria would embolden terrorist groups and deepen instability across West Africa.
He stressed that worsening insecurity would place Christians and other vulnerable communities at greater risk nationwide.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts that protect Christians and all Nigerians affected by terrorism.
The lawmaker also welcomed a newly signed security cooperation agreement between the United States and Nigeria.
He described the agreement as a critical step toward tackling violence and strengthening bilateral relations.
He said deeper security cooperation would help improve stability and protect lives across Nigeria.
