Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, CON, has received a high-powered delegation from the National Institute for Sports (NIS), led by its Director-General, Comrade Philips Shuaibu, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration in youth development, sports advancement and institutional capacity building.
The Governor described the engagement as purposeful and forward-looking, emphasizing the shared belief that sports, when strategically invested in, go beyond recreation to serve as a catalyst for national unity, human capital development and social transformation.
Moreover, he expressed appreciation for the Director-General’s commendation of the state government’s developmental strides in the sports sector, particularly the ongoing reconstruction of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
The stadium, which is being rebuilt to meet full FIFA standards, is expected to enhance Kaduna’s competitiveness in hosting national and international sporting events.
He also welcomed the decision of the National Institute for Sports to establish its North West Zonal Office in Kaduna State, describing it as a recognition of the state’s strategic importance and renewed development momentum.
Commending Comrade Shuaibu’s leadership, the Governor reaffirmed Kaduna State’s commitment to repositioning sports as a vital tool for youth empowerment, social cohesion, discipline and sustainable economic growth.

Highlighting key investments in sports infrastructure, Governor Uba Sani noted that the Ahmadu Bello Stadium is being expanded from a seating capacity of 16,000 to 32,000.
Further acknowledging the need for improved capacity building in the sports sector, expressing optimism that the presence of the NIS zonal office would help bridge existing skill and institutional gaps.
The Governor assured the delegation of the state government’s full support, including the provision of a fully furnished facility to accommodate the Institute’s zonal operations.
