A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Nyesom Wike has begun renovating the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The development marks a fresh twist in the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.

Renovation work has commenced at Wadata Plaza, located in Zone 5, Abuja.

The project includes repainting the building, replacing air conditioning units, and changing office locks. Workers have also started reallocating offices to members of the new National Working Committee (NWC).

The renovation follows the unsealing of the secretariat by security operatives.

The Nigeria Police Force removed barricades around the premises, allowing the Wike-backed faction access to the facility.

However, some police personnel remain stationed at the location to maintain order.

Although renovation is in progress, staff members have yet to resume duties.

A party source said the work began on Sunday and is expected to be completed before normal activities resume.

However, uncertainty remains over whether all staff will return, especially those loyal to the rival faction.

Meanwhile, the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has insisted that the reopening of the secretariat follows valid court orders.

The group also announced the reopening of the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House, in Maitama.

It warned that any attempt to disrupt activities at the secretariat would not be tolerated.

On the other hand, the faction led by Tanimu Turaki has criticised the development.

Its spokesman, Ini Ememobong, argued that the court decision cited to justify the unsealing is currently under appeal.

He warned that the move could undermine ongoing legal proceedings and deepen the party’s internal crisis.

The situation underscores the deep divisions within the PDP ahead of future elections.

As both factions continue to assert control, the crisis may affect the party’s unity and political strength moving forward.
