Kwankwaso Denies ADC Exit, Says No Final Decision

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports suggesting he has concluded plans to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC), clarifying that no final decision has been taken his political future.

In a statement addressing recent speculation, Kwankwaso said narratives about a possible realignment within the ADC were premature and misleading. He noted that while the party is currently facing legal and structural challenges, consultations are still ongoing with key stakeholders before any formal position is adopted.

He referenced the recent Supreme Court ruling which affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee, but also returned aspects of the matter to the High Court, leaving the party in what he described as a “precarious position.” He further pointed to a Federal High Court decision invalidating the party’s recent convention, alongside a move by the Attorney General of the Federation to seek the deregistration of the ADC.

Kwankwaso recalled that his political group had previously exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party due to legal complications, warning that similar pressures are now affecting the ADC. As a result, he said broad consultations have commenced with leaders across political platforms, including the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party, to determine the most viable path forward.

On the issue of presidential ambition, Kwankwaso reiterated that he has neither declared interest nor endorsed any candidate, stressing that the ADC has yet to zone its ticket or take a formal decision on the matter. He described ongoing speculation as unfounded.

Reflecting on his political history, Kwankwaso emphasized his record of party loyalty and commitment to national interest, citing his participation in past presidential primaries and subsequent support for party nominees, including Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar.

He also explained that his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to personal commitments, noting that he had communicated this to party leadership in advance.

Kwankwaso assured that any definitive decision regarding his political direction will be formally announced through appropriate channels, urging the public to disregard speculation in the meantime.
