Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has expressed confidence that his successor in 2031 will outperform him, stating that his administration is laying a solid foundation that will propel the state to greater heights in the years ahead.
Governor Otti made the remarks during a grand reception service organised in his honour by the Assemblies of God Church, Okaiuga-Nkwoegwu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
According to the governor, Abia State has entered a new era of accelerated development, declaring that the long-standing “curse” that hindered the state’s progress has been broken.
“We have only just begun; we are not even three years into this administration. Imagine what Abia will look like by 2031. The time for aggressive development is now. The curse that held us down has been broken, and whoever succeeds me will be better than I am,” Otti said.
He further emphasised that the progress being witnessed in the state is divinely ordained, stressing that no individual or force can obstruct God’s plan for Abia State.
“Power belongs to God. When it is God’s time, nothing can stand in the way. Even if you are sleeping, God will wake you up,” the governor added, quoting Psalm 62.
Earlier in his address, the District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Jerusalem District, Rev. Dr. Kenneth Ogbudu, described Governor Otti as a transformational leader who has redefined governance in Abia State.
Rev. Ogbudu noted that the governor has restored public confidence through competence, transparency, and tangible results. He cited ongoing massive road reconstruction, improved infrastructure, enhanced financial discipline, and regular payment of salaries and pensions as evidence of the administration’s impact.
He also observed that long-abandoned roads are being rehabilitated and that Abia State is steadily emerging as an attractive destination for investment.
In response to requests from the church, Governor Otti announced that a Hummer bus would be provided for evangelism, courtesy of Prince Arthur Eze. He also directed his Chief of Staff to liaise with the church on securing land for a proposed prayer camp.
The governor expressed appreciation to churches across the state for their continued prayers and support, describing them as a strong pillar behind his administration.
The event was attended by the governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, members of the Abia State House of Assembly, top government officials, commissioners, and political leaders from across the state.
