UN Volunteers Executive Coordinator Begins Official Visit to Nigeria

The Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme, Mr. Toily Kurbanov, has commenced an official visit to Nigeria to strengthen collaboration between the UNV and the Government of Nigeria.

Mr. Kurbanov, who arrived in Abuja on Thursday, met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohamed M. M. Fall, to discuss the vital role of UN Volunteers in advancing the UN’s mandate and supporting national development priorities.

During the meeting, both leaders exchanged views on strategies to enhance the impact of UN Volunteers in Nigeria, focusing on integration, mentoring, and capacity development to improve volunteers’ effectiveness and career progression.

Mr. Kurbanov also met with the UN Country Team, where discussions centered on a system-wide approach to maximizing the contribution of UN Volunteers across UN programmes in Nigeria.

The visit aims to strengthen collaboration between the UNV Programme, UN agencies, and the Nigerian government in addressing key national priorities through volunteerism.

According to the UNV Office, Mr. Kurbanov is expected to meet with senior government officials and other partners as part of his engagement during the visit.
