Guinness World Records has named Nigerian chef Hilda Baci its 2027 ICON, recognizing her record breaking achievements and influence around the world.

The honour celebrates Baci’s contributions to the record book and her impact on millions of people who followed her journey. In particular, Guinness World Records highlighted her famous cooking marathon in Lagos in 2023 and her 2025 achievement for preparing the world’s largest serving of jollof rice.

Baci cooked for more than 90 hours during her 2023 cookathon. The event attracted global attention and inspired thousands of people across Africa to attempt endurance challenges in different fields.

Later, she added another milestone to her career by setting a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of jollof rice. The meal weighed an impressive 8,780 kilograms and further strengthened her place in the record books.

Her achievements also sparked a remarkable trend across Nigeria. As a result, many young Nigerians attempted record-breaking feats in cooking, reading, dancing, fashion and other creative activities.

According to Guinness World Records, Nigeria alone submitted more than 1,500 applications for record attempts after Baci’s cookathon captured international attention.

Baci said the recognition means more than personal success. Instead, she described the award as a celebration of resilience, courage and the willingness to pursue bold dreams.

The celebrity chef also reflected on her early years in the kitchen. She recalled helping at her mother’s restaurant as a child, where she developed her passion for cooking and hospitality. Since then, she has built one of Africa’s most recognizable culinary brands.

Looking ahead, Baci said she plans to pursue more record attempts. However, she explained that her future projects will focus on creating meaningful impact, promoting African culture and inspiring young people.

The latest honour adds another chapter to Baci’s remarkable journey. Ultimately, her story continues to encourage aspiring chefs, entrepreneurs and creators to dream big and turn their ambitions into reality.
