President Bola Tinubu has called for stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and traditional rulers to tackle insecurity in Northern Nigeria. According to the President, traditional institutions remain important partners in promoting peace and supporting development.
Speaking at the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council in Dutse, Jigawa State, Tinubu highlighted the role of traditional rulers in maintaining stability. He noted that they have strong ties with local communities and understand the challenges facing their people.
Furthermore, the President said traditional rulers can help security agencies by providing credible information and supporting conflict resolution efforts. As a result, their involvement can strengthen security operations at the grassroots level.
Tinubu said insecurity continues to affect many communities across Northern Nigeria. He identified banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and communal clashes as major threats to peace and national development.
Therefore, the President stressed the need for a united approach. He urged security agencies, government officials, community leaders, and traditional rulers to work together in addressing these challenges.
Moreover, he emphasized that cooperation among stakeholders is essential for achieving lasting peace and stability.
In addition to security measures, Tinubu called for efforts to address the root causes of insecurity. According to him, poverty, unemployment, and limited economic opportunities often contribute to crime and violence.
He explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on improving living standards and creating jobs. Consequently, the administration believes that economic growth will help reduce insecurity and improve citizens’ welfare.
The President also encouraged traditional rulers to support government programmes aimed at empowering Nigerians. Furthermore, he noted that access to education, employment, and social services is critical to building peaceful communities.
Meanwhile, the government remains committed to implementing policies that promote inclusive growth and national development.
Members of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council welcomed the President’s appeal. They pledged to continue supporting efforts to improve security and maintain peace in their communities.
In addition, the traditional rulers expressed their readiness to work closely with security agencies and government authorities. They said stronger cooperation would help improve intelligence gathering and community engagement.
The meeting comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in several northern states. However, many stakeholders believe that closer collaboration between traditional rulers and government institutions can strengthen security efforts.
Ultimately, both the Federal Government and traditional leaders agree that partnership, trust, and community involvement are essential to achieving lasting peace across the region.
