The Federal Government has started plans to bring back more than 1,000 Nigerians from South Africa. The move follows growing anti-immigrant protests and rising xenophobic tensions in the country.

Many foreign nationals now face hostility in parts of South Africa. Some groups blame migrants for unemployment, crime, and economic hardship.

Nigerian authorities say they are arranging the voluntary return of affected citizens. Many Nigerians have raised concerns about their safety and welfare.

The decision follows several protests and attacks targeting foreign nationals. As a result, some African countries have taken steps to protect their citizens.

Reports show that Ghana has already begun bringing home hundreds of its nationals from South Africa.

The Federal Government has repeatedly expressed concern over the treatment of Nigerians living in South Africa.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited South Africa’s diplomatic representatives in Abuja for discussions. Officials raised concerns about attacks on Nigerians and growing anti-foreigner sentiments.

Government officials say the repatriation exercise remains voluntary. They say the initiative forms part of efforts to protect Nigerians living abroad.

The government has advised Nigerians in South Africa to remain calm. It also urged them to stay in touch with Nigerian diplomatic missions and obey local laws.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

Meanwhile, fears are growing among African communities in South Africa. Reports of violence, intimidation, and anti-immigration campaigns have increased concerns.

South African authorities have condemned xenophobic attacks. They have also promised to protect all residents regardless of nationality.

The Federal Government says it will continue engaging South African authorities through diplomatic channels.

Officials say they want to protect Nigerians abroad while maintaining strong relations between both countries.
