Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced that he has left the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pointing to worsening internal problems within the party and the broader political climate in Nigeria.

In a statement released, via his social media platform, Obi explained that his decision followed what he described as deepening divisions and instability inside the ADC. He noted that the situation within the party had become increasingly difficult, making it hard to continue on that platform.

He also spoke about the wider political environment in the country, describing it as tense and unfriendly. According to him, public figures are facing mounting pressure, and the overall atmosphere has become “toxic,” discouraging meaningful participation and service.

Obi emphasized that his exit was not driven by personal disagreements with party leaders. Instead, he said it was based on principle and concern over the direction of both the party and the political system. He maintained respect for key figures in the ADC despite choosing to step away.

His resignation comes at a time when the party is dealing with internal disputes and legal challenges, raising uncertainty about its stability ahead of future elections.
