Professor Mansur Isa Yelwa (Hafizahullah), have warned against the belief that individuals must attain wealth before marriage. They described this idea as misleading and harmful to society.

The scholars emphasized that financial responsibility is important, but Islam does not require great wealth for marriage. What matters most is the ability to provide for a spouse’s basic needs and uphold good character.

They explained that the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encourage simplicity in marriage and discourage unnecessary delays. Overemphasis on wealth, they said, has contributed to moral decline and increased hardship for young people.

Islam, the scholars added, promotes a balanced approach. Individuals should not rush into marriage without any means, but they also should not delay indefinitely in pursuit of riches. Modest means, sincerity, and responsibility are sufficient.

Parents and guardians were urged to ease conditions for marriage and avoid imposing excessive demands that discourage capable suitors.

Professor Yelwa stressed that reliance on God, combined with effort and good intention, is central to building a successful marriage. Wealth, he said, should not be the deciding factor in such an important life decision.

The message comes amid growing concerns over rising marriage costs and societal pressures, which many believe are delaying marriage among young people.
