Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has ordered all public and private schools in the state to commence an immediate mid-term break over security concerns.

The directive takes effect from Wednesday, February 4, 2026, with no official resumption date announced.

The order was communicated through an urgent notice issued by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter.

According to the statement signed by the association’s State Chairman, Pastor Reuben Jimoh, all schools must comply strictly with the governor’s directive or risk losing their operational approval.

“This is an important announcement from the Executive Governor of Kogi State. All schools in Kogi State must go on emergency mid-term break from Wednesday, 4th February 2026. Do not announce any resumption date because the situation remains uncertain,” the notice stated.

It further emphasized that the decision was taken in response to prevailing security challenges across the state.

Authorities advised school administrators not to fix reopening dates, citing the unpredictable nature of the security situation ahead of the coming days.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians have been urged to remain alert and follow official government communication channels for updates on resumption plans.

Education stakeholders have also been warned that failure to comply with the directive could attract severe sanctions, including the withdrawal of school operating licenses.

The state government is expected to provide further guidance as the security situation develops.
