A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chief Sunny Anyanwu (Ugwumba), has announced a Special Award for the Military Officer of the Year 2025, honouring the Naval officer who maintained composure and professionalism during a public confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Chief Anyanwu, who disclosed this in a public statement on Wednesday, said he decided to donate ₦5,000 from his ₦49,000 monthly pension to the officer in recognition of his discipline and courage.

According to him, the officer’s conduct exemplified “exceptional professionalism, composure, and discipline” — attributes that reflect the best traditions of the Nigerian Navy and the high standards of British-trained officers.

“I humbly advise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honour this young officer with the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) award in recognition of his exemplary service and patriotism,” he said.

Chief Anyanwu added that the gesture was not about the money but about promoting integrity and valor in uniform. He revealed that despite living on a modest pension after 35 years of service, he remains proud to stand for “truth, courage, and integrity in service.”

He urged the authorities to forward the officer’s official account details through the appropriate department for the symbolic presentation of the donation.

The retired officer commended members of the Armed Forces for their continued dedication to national service, describing the honoured naval officer as “a future general and a symbol of the discipline Nigeria needs to uphold.”
