VP Shettima Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment to Regional Stability, Peace

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and strengthened bilateral cooperation.

President Ouattara took the oath of office at the Presidential Palace before West African leaders, global dignitaries, and high-level delegations, pledging renewed focus on national reconciliation and economic consolidation in his new term.

Delivering President Tinubu’s goodwill message, Vice President Shettima congratulated President Ouattara and expressed confidence in his continued leadership. He noted that Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire will deepen existing ties, particularly in agriculture, trade, security cooperation, and regional integration.

“Nigeria remains committed to working closely with Côte d’Ivoire to advance stability, prosperity, and peace across the West African region,” the Vice President said on behalf of President Tinubu.

President Ouattara, in his inaugural remarks, expressed appreciation to visiting leaders for their solidarity, promising sustained reforms and strengthened diplomatic engagement for the benefit of Ivorian citizens.

Among leaders who attended the ceremony were the presidents of South Africa, Liberia, Senegal, Gambia, Angola, and Ghana, alongside former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The United States delegation was led by Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, Jacob Helberg. ECOWAS representatives and other global dignitaries were also present.
