The United Kingdom has announced that from February 25, 2026, all new UK visit visas issued to Nigerian nationals will be electronic visas (eVisas).

In a statement released by the British High Commission in Abuja, the UK confirmed that traditional visa vignette stickers will be replaced with secure digital records.

Under the new system, Nigerian applicants will access their visas electronically through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
According to the UK government, application requirements will remain unchanged. Applicants will still complete the online form, attend a visa application centre to submit biometrics, and meet eligibility criteria.

The only difference is the method of visa issuance instead of receiving a physical sticker in their passport, travellers will receive a digital immigration status.
The transition forms part of the UK’s move toward a fully digital border system designed to improve efficiency and security.
Benefits of the new system include faster passport return times, easier online access to immigration status, and enhanced security since eVisas cannot be lost, stolen, or tampered with.

Applicants will need to create a free UKVI account to access and manage their eVisa once approved.
The change marks a significant modernization of the UK visa process for Nigerian travellers.
