A Kano State magistrate court has mandated that TikTok influencers Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda marry within 60 days. This decision follows the circulation of videos featuring the duo, which were deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board. The clips, showcasing romantic gestures, were considered by authorities to be in violation of the state’s moral and religious values.

Presiding Magistrate Halima Wali directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage and warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would be treated as contempt of court. Additionally, the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board was tasked with overseeing the implementation of the marriage order.

In response, the Hisbah Board has initiated preparations to enforce the court’s decision. Deputy Commander General Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen confirmed that arrangements are underway, including contacting the bride’s family in Zamfara to serve as representatives during the wedding. The TikTokers are undergoing health screenings, such as drug tests and compatibility assessments, to ensure their suitability for marriage. Efforts are also being made to finalize dowry and accommodation arrangements to facilitate the wedding within the 60-day period.

The Hisbah Board reiterated its commitment to promoting moral conduct and warned residents against sharing obscene or indecent materials online. Additionally, plans for a mass wedding ceremony supported by the Kano State Government are underway, aiming to promote decency and assist couples who lack the means for formal marriages.
