Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the bomb attack at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, Borno State, which left about five people dead and several others injured, describing it as a “despicable assault on innocent citizens and the peace of the nation.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, Shettima said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate intensification of security operations across Borno State, directing additional tactical units to track down the perpetrators.
“The Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the peace and security of our nation. Our security agencies are working round the clock to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice,” the Vice President said.

He assured that the Tinubu administration remains committed to strengthening national security, noting that the government is confident the suspects will be arrested.
Shettima also expressed sympathy to families of the victims and the Borno State Government, insisting the incident will not weaken Nigeria’s resolve in the fight against terrorism.
“This administration has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the security, unity, and stability of our nation,” he said.
The Vice President added that the Federal Government is working with state authorities and security agencies to enhance the protection of vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure across the North-East and other regions.
The explosion occurred during morning prayers at the Gamboru Market mosque. Security agencies have since cordoned off the area, and investigation is ongoing.
