The FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services has announced major traffic restrictions across Abuja ahead of the 2026 International Half Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, December 6th, 2025.

The closures will run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. as thousands of athletes take part in the citywide race organized by Premium Trust Bank.

According to the advisory, the marathon will begin opposite the National Fire Service on Muhammadu Buhari Way before moving through key roads such as Constitution Avenue, the Federal Secretariat axis, Shehu Shagari Way, the Court of Appeal route, Goodluck Jonathan Expressway, and Murtala Mohammed Expressway.

The route will continue through the Apo and Area One roundabouts, and along Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, before heading toward Ambassador Valentine Okereke Boulevard and Christopher Gwbain Musa Way. The race will conclude in front of the Velodrome at the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

The entire stretch of the marathon route will be temporarily closed to ensure athlete safety, with traffic and security personnel deployed to manage movement and assist motorists throughout the day. Authorities warn that delays are expected and strongly advise road users to explore alternative routes early and comply with officials stationed along affected corridors.

The FCT DRTS says the temporary restrictions are necessary for the smooth conduct of one of Abuja’s largest international sporting events, expected to attract significant local and global participation.
