Nigeria mourns the passing of Dahiru Usman, a respected Islamic scholar and community leader, who died on Wednesday, 27th November 2025. His death has sparked widespread grief among scholars, religious followers, and the general public, particularly in Bauchi State, where he was widely revered.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State described Usman’s death as “a huge loss to the state, the nation, and the wider Muslim community.” In a condolence message released to the media, the governor expressed deep sympathies to the scholar’s family, students, and followers, praying for Allah’s mercy upon his soul and comfort for the bereaved.
Governor Mohammed said, “Alhaji Dahiru Usman dedicated his life to the promotion of Islamic education, interfaith harmony, and the moral development of our society. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt across Bauchi and beyond.”
Dahiru Usman was known for his extensive scholarship in Islamic jurisprudence, theology, and education. Over several decades, he mentored countless students, founded Islamic schools, and contributed significantly to religious discourse in Northern Nigeria.
In addition to his scholarly work, Usman played an active role in community development, advising local leaders on social cohesion, peacebuilding, and youth empowerment. He was frequently invited to speak at religious forums, seminars, and interfaith dialogues, emphasizing unity, tolerance, and ethical conduct.
Several religious organizations and prominent figures have expressed shock and sorrow at his passing. The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) released a statement mourning the loss, calling Usman “a beacon of knowledge, guidance, and spiritual leadership.”
